If you own a business and have a website, you should be leveraging online PR tactics. Your customers are online right now. In fact, they’re online and they’re talking about you. If you don’t have an active online PR program, you’re going to lose out!
I’ve been using the professional social networking website LinkedIn quite a lot lately, and have gotten some success. My focus has been on building up my network and finding jobs through my connections built through LinkedIn. I’ve learned a few things through monitoring the results of a few key actions.
The first thing that I would recommend doing is having your profile 100% complete. Having your job history, experience, and education background are key. Another feature that I have found to be very useful is the “skills” section. I work in SEO and the “skills” section is basically an opportunity to add relevant “keywords”. The more relevant and targeted keywords that you add to your site, the better. This will help you show up more in searches performed on LinkedIn, as well as search engine results.
The second thing that I have focused on is building up my connections. Specifically, I have utilized the “people you may know” tab in the add connections section. Strategically working through your current connections to build up your network is one of the biggest sources of profile views that I have found.
These are just a few examples of things that have worked well for me. I am constantly trying to improve the effectiveness of my social networking and I welcome any pointers or tips that you would like to share with me!
So I should be blogging more, right? Exactly. I have kind of neglected my blog on my own website. But don’t worry, I’ve been using FB, Twitter, and LinkedIn. I should be blogging more though. Especially since I claim to be a digital media and marketing guru. Right? Maybe.
I’m going to actually say that the answer is “yes.” I should be using ALL available channels that I can to reach out to the community. With the overwhelming amount of communication channels available out there that can aggregate and distribute media, I should be utilizing each one.
I finally signed up for a personal Hootsuite account! I’ve used the service to manage client feeds and social media, but not my own. So now I’m on the band wagon.
Expect to see a lot more coming your way. From EVERY channel possible, so WATCH OUT!!
